Multicultural St. Regis DC Wedding | Ivy + John

by Abby Jiu

Ivy and John celebrated the most incredible day of their lives on a perfect August afternoon. The couple had a Catholic ceremony to honor John’s religion at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle. The couple loves Classical music, so they had the church’s organist play a lineup of songs, including the Cathedral cantor singing “Ave Maria” as Ivy walked down the aisle. And if the song itself did not reduce you to tears, seeing the bride in her dress absolutely would. She wore a lace Ines DiSanto ballgown with an illusion top and full skirt. Her bouquet was bold and rich with shades of red, which is culturally significant. Holly Chapple Flowers used blends of garden roses and dahlias which were stunning, but peonies flown in from Alaska definitely tied the bouquet together. John and Ivy incorporated red in many aspects of their special day. From the invitations to the programs to the lanterns strung in trees, this romantic color was everywhere.

The bride and groom had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony as well. An incredible floral circle that can only be described as visually stunning was the backdrop for this. It had the same red and ivory flowers as Ivy’s bouquet, but in the hundreds. For this portion of their day, Ivy had changed from her lace gown into a red, off-the-shoulder Rachel Gilbert dress. She let her hair down and looked so glamorous next to John in his black suit. Even her shoes were the epitome of glam. She wore crystal encrusted Christian Louboutins as well as Christian Dior sling-backs. Every bride’s dream come true to have both “Christians” at their wedding! The reception was held in the Astor Ballroom of the St. Regis in Washington, DC. Gold accents could be found in the silverware, edging the charger plates, and even rimming the wine glasses. Beautiful floral arrangements were placed throughout the table settings to bring in the red pop of color. The couple choreographed their first dance which was a fun surprise for their guests, but Ivy’s performance of a traditional Chinese sleeve dance was the perfect end to an amazing day.

Fall Meridian House Wedding | Jermaine + Scott

by Abby Jiu

Jermaine and Scott exchanged vows on a beautiful September day at the Meridian House, a historic DC home showcasing stunning architecture. They said “I do” in the gardens, with their two dogs, Abby and Chloe, serving as their flower girls. After the intimate ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails in the property’s Linden Grove, which was an amazing backdrop for conversation and laughter. The couple met at a bar named after Marvin Gaye and had a two-year long engagement following their two-year long courtship. This gave them the perfect amount of time to make every detail absolutely flawless. From the stationary to the Welcome Boxes, no detail was spared, down to the Beyonce-inspired cookies. “Halo” was their processional song so she was tied into their day in more ways than one. The grooms traveled in a vintage 1964 Rolls-Royce, complete with a eucalyptus garland adorning the back. Amaryllis Floral & Event Design also created a beautiful doorway garland of roses, ivy, and more eucalyptus which led the couple and their guests into the reception.

The outdoor space at the Meridian House greeted Jermaine and Scott’s loved ones with a bourbon bar and a charcuterie station. The charcuterie station by Design Cuisine sat under a crystal chandelier and was not only visually appealing but no doubt delicious. Inside, guests were seated in both the library and the dining room. Shades of green, white, and grey used throughout the space and on the table settings were understated, beautiful, yet still masculine. The couple chose tall vases for their tables, filled with orchids, other florals, and a hint of greenery. The three-tiered, two-flavored cake was topped with a marble tier and donned a unique gold monogram on the middle tier. It was a vision. To prepare for the party, the couple changed from their sleek black loafers to matching glittered loafers. Although Scott’s Christian Louboutin’s were classic and modern, nothing says party-time like glitter!

Fall Solage Auberge Calistoga Wedding in Napa Valley | April + AJ

by Abby Jiu

April and AJ wanted a fall wedding where their friends and family could come together in one of their favorite places, Napa Valley. And since the couple resides in San Francisco, Napa Valley was a short trip to the resort. April and AJ wanted to keep it their wedding modern and warm, so with their planner + designer, Kate Siegel Fine Events, they created a monochromatic color palette and added an abundance of light and greenery.

Typically for a destination wedding, we will scout picture locations the day before the event. Upon our trips, we found the photo opportunities at the Solage Auberge were endless. We really could have photographed there all day long. Immediately following the ceremony, we went to the vineyards where the falls leaves had turned a rich red hue and the moment was topped off with a golden Napa sunset.

Underwood Press designed a monochromatic paper suite with gold embellishments that lent itself to the fresh and modern take at Solage Auberge. Mother of Pearl was used to add texture and depth while still keeping the color palette clean and simple. The alliteration of the couple’s first initial was cleverly used to create their wedding monogram.

This locale for pictures was somewhat of a wildcard. At the resort, it is used as a wild flower and herb garden. Lisa and I saw it as the perfect spot for dreamy pictures.

Kate Siegel wanted an eye catcher when the guests walked in. So with Go Lights SF they created a custom 12x14 chandelier with boasted 48 acrylic globes that hung over the dance floor.
