The Dress That Designed the Wedding: A Night at the Museum in Washington, D.C.
Andrea's Oscar de la Renta gown didn't just fit the venue. It inspired the entire design system. The lattice pattern running through the skirt, made with tiny flowers, became the blueprint for the trellis-patterned linens that covered every reception table at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. When Grit & Grace Inc. and the design team describe this wedding, that's where they start: the dress came first, and everything else followed. Lisa Ziesing photographed the two-night celebration in early May, with getting ready coverage at the Hay-Adams Hotel.
The Getting Ready: Vintage in Washington, D.C.
Before the Oscar de la Renta gown, there was a vintage slip dress sourced at Vintage Vintage Vintage in D.C. It's the kind of getting-ready choice that signals immediately who this bride is: someone with a specific eye, not defaulting to the expected. The Hay-Adams Hotel, positioned directly across Lafayette Square from the White House, provided the backdrop for getting-ready coverage and the welcome evening the night before.

Night One: The Hay-Adams
The Hay-Adams is one of the most storied properties in Washington, with a location on H Street NW directly facing the White House that is simply without parallel in the city. The welcome evening set the green palette in motion: sage green portable lamps, dark green marble accessories, custom cocktail stirrers stamped with the couple's monogram, and napkins printed with the wedding date. Signature cocktails included a cucumber vodka hi-ball and a white Negroni. Gingham-upholstered lounge chairs in deep green and white surrounded fluted pedestals, referencing the same graphic language that would carry through to the reception the following night.
The Ceremony and Reception: National Museum of Women in the Arts
The National Museum of Women in the Arts occupies a Renaissance Revival building in downtown D.C. The only museum in the world dedicated exclusively to women artists, it gave this wedding a backdrop that meant something. The Great Hall with its three crystal chandeliers and open mezzanine is one of the most striking event spaces in the city, and the design team used every inch of it.
Guests encountered the escort display first. Grit & Grace has a name for the moment in the rotunda: the Secret Garden Pillar. It was the first taste of the design environment as they entered, and it housed the escort cards before the ceremony. Giving guests their escort cards pre-ceremony, it turned out, worked extremely well: no one forgot them once a cocktail was in hand.
From there, the design unfolded as a fully realized environment. The lattice-patterned trellis linens from Something Vintage Rentals in deep teal and white ran the length of every table, a direct translation of the skirt of the bride's Oscar de la Renta gown. Sage green chargers from Maison de Carine, cut crystal glassware, and continuous low arrangements of white narcissus, ranunculus, tulips, and garden roses from Sophie Felts covered each table, with tall hurricane candles and green tapers rising through the florals. Photographed from the mezzanine, the room reads as a single cohesive design object. Stationery by Kelsey Malie Design carried a matching botanical motif through the round menus on each charger.
Sam Hill Entertainment and Young Hearts Music provided the band. Sage String Quartet handled ceremony and cocktail hour. But the reception's most memorable moment came mid-dance floor: Andrea rolled out a martini cart herself, and a bartender made drinks for guests right there on the floor. She made her entrance in an after-party look that was not the expected white mini but a pant look with lace and feathers. It was, by any measure, a fashion-forward wedding in every sense.
