• Decatur House Wedding – Kat and Robert

    November 1, 2012   //   Weddings

bride getting dressed at hay adams hotel suiteWhen Kat stepped into her Vera at the beginning of the day,  it may have been cloudy outside, but she wasn’t letting going to let anything get her down.  She was just happy to marry the man that she met back in 2006.  And even though they met years ago, it wasn’t until 2010 at a mutual friend’s gathering that Robert got the courage to ask Kat out on a date.  In fact, he was so excited about the date, Robert made reservations at multiple restaurants just so that he could give her plenty of options.

Kat and Robert dated for awhile and then took a trip to Napa Valley as a reward for Kat’s three month long work stint where she worked every single day at her residency at GWU.  It was also where Robert wanted so much to surprise Kat that he even took her to a jewelry store in Napa to throw her off (meanwhile, the ring was waiting for her back at the hotel).  Fast forward to August 2012 and it’s Kat and Robert’s Decatur House wedding.  Where even a little rain didn’t dampen their mood.

I started off spending time with Ally and Jeff when I photographed their beach engagement session earlier this year.  And I just knew their wedding was going to be a beauty!  Ally and Jeff met while in St. Michael’s so when it came time to search for a wedding venue, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum was the place.  It provided the outdoor nautical feel that they were looking for and sentimental value for its location.  Lauryn Prattes from Table 6 Productions designed the wedding to a “T” complete with sailboats and nautical stripes.

  • Four Seasons Baltimore Wedding – Carolyn and Colin

    four seasons baltimore wedding

When they signed up for their work softball team, Carolyn and Colin could barely guess that six years later it would lead to their wedding at the Four Seasons in Baltimore.  What started out as a second glance for their athletic skills later turned into a courtship between Carolyn and Colin that lasted for six years.  Fast forward four and a half years later and Colin surprised his future fiancé with a trip to Ireland.  And being that they are both Irish babies, the trip was a meaningful and sentimental place to both of them.  When the plane took off, Carolyn thought to herself this could be “the trip” where he proposes.  But after driving up the Irish coast for 6 full days, Carolyn came to the decision that he wasn’t going to do it, because “Who could hang onto a ring for that long?”.  But little did she know Colin had it all planned out.  Because when they reached the top of the Cliffs of Moher, Colin decided it was the perfect time and he popped the question.  Congratulations Carolyn and Colin!

They picked the Four Seasons Baltimore for their wedding even before the hotel was finished completed.  Carolyn and Colin walked around the heavy construction with hard hats on and decided it was “the one” because it had such great views of their city, Baltimore.

Melanie and Mike had a gorgeous Woodend Sanctuary wedding earlier this year.  I love that the couple decided to do a first look and see each other before the ceremony, because the picture above says it all.  Melanie and Mike created such a personal and endearing day that was filled with lots of unique touches throughout.  One of my favorites was when Melanie’s brother, Ryan, officiated the ceremony and added his insight.  His three rules for marriage were both heartfelt and hilarious at the same time.  And at the end he announced, “I know pronounce you man and wife, you may now kiss my sister.”  The guests erupted in laughter and it was the perfect conclusion to Melanie and Mike’s ceremony.  The design for the wedding was created by the magnificent, Kate of Simply Chic she created this gorgeous Woodend Sanctuary wedding, filling it with a palette of clean whites and and plenty of textures.  Her custom Crane Chandelier was AMAZING!

woodend sanctuary weddingMelanie’s Dad folded 1000 paper cranes as a Japanese tradition for Melanie and Mike in honor of their marriage.  In the Japanese culture, the time and energy spent to complete the tradition symbolizes the patience and trust necessary to sustain a happy marriage.  Cranes were passed out to guests, and Kate of Simply Chic, also went one step further and used additional cranes in a very creative way.  She came up with and constructed this custom chandelier that hung many of the cranes over the dinner table in such a creative and elegant way.
