Wanda is a former Redskins Cheerleader and used her dancing skills for their first dance. The guests loved it!

Lauryn Prattes planned a romantic dinner for two for the couple. Their hotel room was candlelit after they arrived home from their carriage ride around the city.

Willard Hotel Wedding – Katie and Travis

I really loved the classic and elegant feel of Katie and Travis’ DC wedding at the Willard Hotel. The old world feel of the Willard Hotel paired with Travis’ Army dress uniform provided the perfect mix for this amazing couple who first met while both serving in the military. And as Elena, Katie’s maid of honor, mentioned as soon as Katie saw Travis, she knew she wanted to know him more. On their first date she told Elena, “He poured me wine, and I liked it!” You see, Katie has always been a strong and independent woman. The kind of person who after the devastation of 9/11, went straight to the recruiters office and signed up for the Army. So for her to enjoy a man taking care of her, she knew that he was the one. The day started off getting ready at the Willard Hotel and ended dancing the night, breaking it down to the 8 piece band, Onyx. And I mean, they really danced the night away!

Dumbarton House Wedding – Ken and Izumi

Ken and Izumi’s Dumbarton House wedding was a small and intimate affair. They had guests from all over the world and many from Japan make the journey to DC to celebrate. And it was evident throughout the day how much this couple meant to their guests. I love weddings big and small, and both have their unique qualities that make each of them special. At small weddings, I adore how the intimate affair opens up the floor for the guests to make toasts to the couple at the reception. There are usually funny stories about how the couple met and how what they mean to all the people in attendance. It was easy to see how special Izumi and Ken are to the people that gathered to celebrate their Dumbarton House wedding.

Izumi changed into a kimono for part of the reception to honor her Japanese heritage

Amber and Emily of Amber Karson Events played off of the yellow decor of the Dumbarton House
and combined it with persimmon to make up this perfect color palette for the wedding

I love how DC offers intriguing historical houses as wedding venues.

Amber Karson Events collaborated with Ken and Izumi to bring Japanese traditions into their wedding day. They even included a sake bar for guests to enjoy.Izumi and Ken performed a Japanese custom of “Breaking of the Sake Barrel” at their wedding. It represents an opening to harmony and good fortune.

Izumi mentioned that Japanese wedding receptions are more formal affairs so the family members from Japan
were very surprised and pleased at how much fun they ended up having dancing.
